UPDATE - MAY 2026

It almost FAIR SEASON – Are you Ready??

Bison Arena Updates

Wiens and Company has been working diligently on Phase Two of the Bison Arena Ag Innovation Center. Sheetrock is being hung, restrooms are getting ready for tiling, and the electrical work is progressing nicely. Scheduled completion of this phase is July 2026.

Once completed, Phase Two will allow for approximately 13,000 square feet of usable space. I have had several meetings with Mixdesign, our interactive educational product developers, who have been hired to design the interior once the construction of the building is complete. Their designs are hands-on learning opportunities to teach people where their food comes from and all of the amazing agricultural commodity groups that we have here in the State of Kansas. As fundraising continues, installation of these items will follow in a future phase. If you or your company are interested in finding out more about the Bison Arena Ag Innovation Center, please reach out to me and I will personally give you a tour and discuss the different naming opportunities this project has to offer.

We plan to incorporate the completed Phase Two space into the 2026 Kansas State Fair, including hosting the Freedom 250 Rolling Museum. This traveling exhibit will bring the story of America’s Founding directly to the Kansas State Fair and other communities across the nation. The interactive exhibits invite visitors to explore the remarkable fight for American freedom. So plan to Step Inside the American Story Rolling Museum during the 2026 Kansas State Fair.

Lighting Upgrades

A big Thank You to the Kansas Legislature for reissuing $243,000 in APRA dollars ear-marked for continued lighting upgrades on the Kansas State Fairgrounds campus. Our Team has been doing their due diligence in making the State Fairgrounds safer and more energy efficient. These dollars will go a long way toward completing our lighting upgrades! Once again, a big “THANK YOU” to our Kansas Legislature!

UPDATE - FEBRUARY 2026

Hello and Happy New Year from the Kansas State Fair Board of Directors and Team!

We are just over seven months away from the start of the 2026 Kansas State Fair—September 11–20—and there is a tremendous amount of work already happening behind the scenes to make it a truly memorable event.

While the 2025 Fair presented its challenges, our focus is firmly on 2026, which will be a year marked by several significant milestones. These include the 250th Birthday of the United States of America, the 120th anniversary of 4-H, the 25th anniversary of September 11th, and the 35th anniversary of the Little Red School House which welcomes school-age kids to the Fair for educational fieldtrips.

With the Fair opening on September 11th,that day will feature several special events to commemorate and honor those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks. That evening, Country music icon Trace Adkins, a dedicated military advocate known for his extensive support of veterans and service members, will take the Grandstand stage, along with a few special surprises. Tickets are selling quickly, so be sure to secure yours soon. At this time, Trace Adkins is the only confirmed Grandstand entertainment we can announce—but more announcements are coming soon.

Construction on the Bison Arena, Phase 2, is scheduled for completion by July and will provide approximately 13,000 square feet of usable space during the 2026 Fair. This area will play a key role in our 250th Birthday Celebration. We continue to fundraise for future phases to complete the Bison Arena Ag Innovation Center, and we extend a sincere thank you to Wiens and Company for their outstanding work on Phase 2.

We are also moving forward with several on-ground upgrades. A major year-long improvement project is underway at Ye Old Mill, which will include new boats, canal sealing, electrical upgrades, and a new roof. The estimated cost for this project is between $750,000 and $1 million. If you, your business, or someone you know may be interested in sponsoring a portion of these upgrades—or even a boat—please let me know. Donations of any size are greatly appreciated, and boat sponsors will have their name or company name displayed for all to see. Your support will help preserve this iconic Kansas State Fair attraction for generations to come.

Additional improvements are also being pursued for the Dairy Barn. I recently presented the Kansas State Fair budget to the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, chaired by Representative Lisa Moser, and requested $750,000 to begin upgrades that could include a new roof, electrical improvements, restroom upgrades, tie-outs, and other enhancements. While this request was removed during the Legislative Budget Committee’s pre-budget process back in November, Representative Ken Rahjes strongly advocated for the project to be put back in. He recommended allocating $400,000 toward these upgrades, contingent upon the Kansas State Fair securing a $400,000 match through cash and in-kind contributions. Our match must be in place by June 1, 2027. I will also be presenting our budget to the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee in the coming weeks and am hopeful this request will remain intact. If you know of any potential contributors who may be interested in supporting this effort, please let me know.

Additional lighting upgrades throughout the fairgrounds will also continue in the coming year.

We truly appreciate your continued dedication and support of the Kansas State Fair.

Hope y’all have a KANTASTIC day!

Fair Highlights from General Manager, Bryan Schulz

WOW what an amazing Ten Days of the 2025 Kansas State Fair, with a few records being set!

Even with several days of rain and our parking lots unavailable for use, we still had a GREAT 2025 Kansas State Fair!

Kansas State Fair by the Numbers:

  • 300,784 Fairgoers came through the gates
  • A record setting 1,303-pound giant pumpkin was on display in the Pride of Kansas Building
  • The Grand Drive saw 831exhibitors and awarded premium checks for over $130,000 and presented a total of $10,000 in scholarships.
  • 96 high school bands from across the State had 4,029 students performing, some in the rain, on the grounds Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Just shy of 33,000 people attended concerts/events at the Nex Tech Grandstands with Ludacis having the largest attendance at 6,513 fans and Jeff Dunham coming in a close second with 6,030 fans. This number surpasses our 2015 record even with our having to cancel the Demolition Derby.
  • Our Competitive Exhibits department had 5,837 entries
  • Our new five-ride passes which included the Skyride, State Fair Railroad, the Ye’ Old Mill, Big Yellow Slide and the State Fair Boats sold 5,307 passes.
  • We had 94 concessions and 480 vendors and exhibitors across the grounds
  • And let’s not forget about the newest item at this year’s Kansas State Fair - Kansas State Fair Saltwater Taffy. This was a very big hit, and plans are in the works to make this an annual item.

The weather was not on our side for multiple days, but I want to give a HUGE shoutout to all of our Emergency Services personnel who came together to assist the Fair with alternative parking and driving route options when our parking lots became unusable. A BIG THANK YOU to Dr. Tricia Paramore and her Team at Hutchinson Community College for allowing the Fair to use their parking lots and buses. I also want to thank the Uptown Mall and BOLD LP3 for allowing us to use their parking lots, and lastly, without the assistance of Durham School Services and Village Travel, we would have been unable to provide the shuttle service to our patrons. This is what a GREAT COMMUNITY LOOKS LIKE!!

I also want to give a HUGE THANK YOU to the Kansas State Fair Board of Directors and TEAM who tirelessly worked to make sure the shuttle process was safe and seamless by directing traffic and monitoring buses during the parking lot closure times. We Truly Appreciate You All!!

We are all hoping and praying for 75 and lots of sunshine for the 2026 Kansas State Fair - September 11 – 20 in Hutchinson, Kansas!!

Hope y’all have a KANTASTIC DAY!!
